The virtues of Ramadan

“O you who believe fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may have Taqwa”. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 183)

In an address to the believers of this Ummah (nation) Allah ordered them to fast.

Allah Almighty praised the holy month of Ramadan out of all other months because of the many important events which occurred in it from the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the Laylat Al-Qadr (the night of the decree) and the battle of Badr to the obligation of fasting Ramadan.

Allah said,
“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and clear proof of the guidance and criterion (between right and wrong)”. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)

The Laylat Al-Qadr,
“The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months”. (Surah Al-Qadr 97:3)

The battle of Badr,
“And Allah did certainly assisted you at Badr when you were weak: be careful of (your duty) Allah then, that you may give thanks”. (Surah Al-Imran 3:123)

The obligation of fasting Ramadan,
“O you who believe fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you .that you may have Taqwa”. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 183)

InshAllah in my article I am will discuss first the events of the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the Laylat Al-Qadr and the battle of Badr. Then, I will be discussing the obligatory fasting of the holy month of Ramadan, which is the main purpose of this article.
