The amazing murals that have brightened up a Newport flyover
The eye-catching work has been popping up underneath the flyover in recent months
A Newport flyover has been given new life thanks to a host of new murals. The colourful artwork has been appearing on pillars under the A4042 flyover in Shaftesbury since last year celebrating the heritage of the city.
The dashing series of murals have been painted by a number of different artists including Caerphilly artist Paul Shepherd and have been created in the style of Harlequin colour patterns – a nod to the busy Harlequin roundabout nearby.
Since last year Newport City Council has been working alongside partners and community groups and commissioned a number of murals as part of efforts to improve the city. The projects are designed to celebrate the heritage of the city, add a splash of colour to key locations, and enhance the local area. They include an eye-catching mural in Pillgwenlly last year, one in Maindee, and another on the site of the historic former sweet factory in Somerton.
