An American woman has sparked a debate on social media after claiming that all British food is "terrible". TikToker Charlie - known as Lunchpailgin on the app - uploaded a video in which she gave her thoughts on British cuisine.

The video has no caption but was uploaded with text that reads: "Southern American woman's review of British food". In the clip, Charlie begins by admitting she's noticed a trend of American TikTokers slamming British food, adding that the reviews are "not wrong."

She explained: "I went to the UK, I had a variety of food while I was there. I was shown around by natives so for all you Brits out there, I did go to Wetherspoons, I did go to Toby's. I did have 'proper' Chinese, all terrible". She then went on to explain to her American fans what Wetherspoons was by saying it was like the "British Chilli's or the British Applebee's."

She then said: "It's a chain restaurant, it's nothing special, it's not. I did go to a Toby's, if you've ever been to a Golden Corral, that's the best I can explain it. If you've ever been to a Brazilian steakhouse in the United States, doesn't compare. A Toby's could never touch it, and I know that a Toby's is bare minimum for a carvery.

"British people say we don't have carvaries but we literally do, they're just not called that and they're better than probably anything that they could ever imagine. Nando's, Nando's is like, just like a mild version of Chipotle. You can go there and you can get chicken tenders or, like, a wrap or a salad, it's not that special.

"We have one in Miami, next time you're in Florida just go visit it, it's really nothing great." She did however go on to praise Nando's by saying: "But I will tell you that that is the only thing that I could eat consistently in the UK. Everything else was a f****** gamble.

"Y'all do not use seasonings, I don't give a f***, ya'll don't use them I'm sorry. I never tried Indian food while I was there, so I won't completely knock the UK because, as far as I know, the Indian food in the UK is hitting.

"But, Chinese food, I did have Chinese food in Bath. It's not good, I had all the classic s***, I had Lo Mein, I had the chicken balls, I had the curry sauce. Not even the worst Chinese food I've had in America could compare to the awfulness It's really as bad as you think."

The comment section quickly became flooded with comments from UK users and some Americans, who had more positive experiences with British food. TinaX wrote: "Toby carvery and Wetherspoons aren’t supposed to be good, they are just cheap!!!"

Autumn commented: "I was in England recently and we had some amazing British food. Pie and mash, bangers and mash, fish and chips." Elektrafying said: "I was about to be offended but then you said you went to Wetherspoons and Toby’s". Charlie replied, writing: "I went to many local places… also bad lol."

American TikTok users agreed with Charlie's comments. Rachel admitted: "It always looks cold lol the only food that looks good is when they make homemade Sunday roast dinners." Laurenkayxo explained: "Nandos was by far the most tolerable. I had to get the extra hot but it was decent… that was the most flavor I got the whole visit".
