The best photos as Tour of Britain finishes in Wales

The stunning route featured a double ascent of Caerphilly Mountain

The Movistar team set the pace on the climb of Bwlch y Groes

The UK’s biggest cycle race returned to the legendary Caerphilly Mountain climb for the first time since 2013 as part of a spectacular finale in South Wales. Stage eight of the Tour of Britain saw the world’s best riders race from the picturesque Margam Country Park to the finish line in the shadows of Caerphilly Castle today.

The stunning but challenging route passed through the boroughs of Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, and Rhondda Cynon Taff. The sting in the tail came in the form of a double ascent of Caerphilly Mountain, the gradient of which averages 10.1% across its 1.3 kilometres.

An estimated 10,000 spectators lined the route of this much-loved climb in 2013, and thousands did so once again today, waving flags and showing their support as the riders made their way past.
