A 16-year-old boy has been hospitalised with potentially life changing injuries following an alleged assault outside a McDonald's branch. Gwent Police received a report of an altercation outside the fast food chain in Rogerstone at around 10.40pm on Saturday, October 7.

A spokesman for the force said a 16-year-old boy from Rogerstone had since been charged with section 18 assault in connection with the incident. For the latest Newport news, sign up to our newsletter here

The spokesman said: "We received a report of an altercation outside McDonalds, Rogerstone, at around 10.40pm on Saturday October 7. Officers attended and a 16-year-old boy from Rogerstone was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. A 16-year-old boy from Rogerstone has since been charged with section 18 assault."
