The cheapest places to buy petrol and diesel in every part of Wales

Amid the cost-of-living crisis, we're all trying to save money wherever we can. Many people are visiting two or three different supermarkets so they can get the best prices for food and drink, staying in more and going out less, and limiting how long they put the heating on for. Plus, as people get started on their Christmas shopping, some people are abandoning their online shopping baskets in the hope they'll be sent a discount - and if you're not doing that yet, Martin Lewis says it's worth a go!

Whilst these are all effective ways of saving money on the shopping, saving money on petrol can be much more difficult. Short of driving all around town to find the best petrol price - and wasting petrol en-route - it can be tough to know whether the petrol you're buying is good value, or whether you're being over-charged.

Fortunately, the UK government set up a group in September that's responsible for monitoring road fuel prices. The Competition and Markets Authority investigates and records fuel prices and reports any sign of malpractice to the government. The Authority aims to help customers across the UK get a fair choice of prices when they buy fuel and forces retailers, including supermarkets, to share the prices they are charging customers on their forecourts.

On average, UK drivers are currently paying 151p per litre of petrol, while people who own diesel vehicles are forking out 159p per litre. Nationally, prices have fallen since they reached an all-time high in July, 2022, of 191.55p for petrol and 199.22 for diesel, but have been heading upwards again in recent weeks. Currently, the cheapest place to buy petrol in the UK is at a Sainsbury's garage in Causeway Coast and Glens in Northern Ireland, where a litre of standard petrol is 138.9p.
