The upcoming Disney and Pixar film Inside Out 2 has been praised for introducing a character 'everyone can relate to'. Set to premiere in June, 2024, the new emotion - voiced by Maya Hawke - to join the others is 'Anxiety'.

The original Inside Out delves into the mind of a young girl named Riley, focusing on five personified emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger. These emotions live in the 'control centre' of Riley's mind and influence her actions and memories.

The plot explores how she navigates a significant life change when her family moves to a new city and how her emotions struggle to adapt to the new environment. Building on the original film, Inside Out 2 will feature twenty-seven personified emotions, according to reports.

A newly released teaser trailer, which sees the original emotions be introduced to Anxiety, seems to have struck a cord with fans. Taking to X, Dinosaysss wrote: "Inside out 2 new character named "anxiety" came with a lot of baggage…. she is so meeeee." Rycom0494 typed: "Finally. A character in Inside Out 2 that I relate to… Anxiety."

MHawk9955 joked: "Finally, I can put a face to my mortal enemy." Hopesloop added: "This is so unrealistic — where’s her iced coffee? Where's the iPhone that is connected to her but also part of the problem?!" Solrafaelryan_ put: "Inside out 2 will feature ennui and anxiety! two characters i can literally relate too."

JiggySevilla said: "Inside Out 2 teaser introduces a new emotion we can all relate to." JakeKaplanNY laughed that Inside Out 2 didn't need the character, writing: "Sorry but we already have an anxiety mascot," while sharing a photo of Rex, the frantic dinosaur from Toy Story.

Others went on to praise the inclusion of Anxiety, with Hitorii16 adding: "Those bags were a great detail to represent anxiety, not knowing what to bring, worrying too much, so she brought everything with her."

The upcoming film sees some from the original film depart from their roles. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return, alongside newcomers Tony Hale, Liza Lapira and Hawke.

The current confirmed cast is as follows:

  • Amy Poehler as Joy
  • Phyllis Smith as Sadness
  • Lewis Black as Anger
  • Tony Hale as Fear (voiced by Bill Hader in the first film)
