A boat was destroyed on Sunday evening by a fire at Swansea Marina. A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue spokesman said reports of a fire came shortly before 6pm and initially two fire engines attended the scene near the National Waterfront Museum.

Crews found that the fire on the 40ft boat was well established and there were concerns about the 100 gallons of diesel and 20 gallons of petrol on board.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Crews utilised two breathing apparatus sets, four main jets, two hose reel jets and two otter pumps to extinguish the fire. The boat was completely destroyed by fire."

Swansea Council and Natural Resources Wales were also in attendance and the incident was handed over to the local authority. The spokesman added that the cause of the fire was accidental.

The spokesman said the only boat affected was "completely destroyed". He added that the crews that attended came from Swansea Central, Swansea West, Morriston and Gorseinon stations, while the water bowser was from Kenfig Hill.

The area was busy at the time with people visiting the nearby Winter Wonderland. One witness said: "The fire brigade had five trucks there and were still trying to contain the fire when we left Winter Wonderland at about 7.30pm. It was still on fire at that point."

Fire crews said they left the scene at 8.02pm.
