150 new homes promised after demolition of large old Tata steel site in Swansea town
Plans are in place to clear a site in Swansea once used by Tata Steel to make way for a brand new housing development.
Aberdare-based Walters Land Limited has asked Swansea Council for permission to carry out the demolition of redundant steel-framed steelworks buildings and associated surrounding sheds and administration blocks once used by the steel producer.
If given the go ahead, the company plans to "remove the redundant buildings to allow for the redevelopment" of the site at High Street in Pontarddulais, with the building of new homes in its place. Little detail has been published about the planned properties at this stage.
Documents submitted as part of the application read: "The site is proposed to be redeveloped for the delivery of up to 150 new homes - this will be the subject of a separate outline planning application."

Turn office space into flats
Permission is being sought to change the use of the first floor of No.89 High Street and No,2 Pontardulais Road from offices to two one bedroom flats with juliet balconies. The application for 2 Pontardulais Road, and 89 High Street, Gorseinon, Swansea, SA4 4FE, was submitted on Friday, October 6. Planning reference: 2023/2126/FUL.
Crown lift four Oak Trees
A planning application to crown lift four Oak Trees covered by TPO has been submitted to the council. The application for 16 Llwyn Y Bioden, Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea, SA6 6TD, was entered on Tuesday, October 10. Planning reference: 2023/2150/TPO
EV charging stations in McDonald's car park
A planning application to install two rapid electric vehicle charging stations within the car park of McDonald's, in Morfa Shopping Park, has been submitted. The plan is for three existing parking spaces to become EV charging bays, along with associated equipment.
The application for Unit 1, McDonald's, Morfa Shopping Park, Brunel Way, Pentrechwyth, Swansea, SA1 7BP, was entered on October 5. Planning reference: 2023/2116/FUL.
Extension of existing rear patio area
Permission is being sought to extend an existing rear patio in a Mumbles property. The application, for 15 Kings Road, Mumbles, Swansea, SA3 4AJ, was entered on October 3. Planning reference: 2023/2102/FUL.
Change use of property to HMO
Permission is being sought to change a use of a property as a HMO (Class C4) in Uplands, Swansea. The application for 65 Glanbrydan Avenue, Uplands, Swansea, SA2 0HY, was entered on September 29. Planning reference: 2023/2082/ELD.
New hot food takeaway could come to Pontarddulais
A new hot takeaway could be coming to Pontarddulais. The intention is to change the use of the deli to hot food takeaway. The application, for 32 St Teilo Street, Pontarddulais, Swansea, SA4 8SZ, was entered on September 19. Planning reference: 2023/1991/FUL.
A new opticians practice could be coming to Killay
A planning application to change the use of a premises to an opticians practice in Killay, Swansea, has been submitted. The intention is to open a practice, that will replace the former pet shop, and offer eye health and sell spectacles during normal office hours and the occasional Saturday.
