A main road in Newport was closed in both directions following a van fire. The incident happened on the A48 near the M4 junction 28 and affected traffic from Tredegar Park to B4237 Cardiff Road, Ebbw Bridge roundabout.
Emergency services including firefighters and paramedics were said to be at the scene of the incident which happened at around 2pm on Monday, October 23.
Gwent Police put diversions in place and advised people to find alternative routes due to congestion. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the van was destroyed in the fire.

Van 'destroyed' in fire
A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 2.09pm on Monday 23 October 2023, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a vehicle fire on Tredegar Park roundabout, Newport.
"Crews from Duffryn and Roath Fire Station attended the incident, alongside emergency services colleagues. The campervan was destroyed by the fire. A stop message was received at approximately 2.39pm."
Road still closed in both directions and diversions in place
A Gwent Police spokesman said: "We received a report of a van on fire on the A48 Cardiff Road, Newport, at around 2.10pm on Monday 23 October. The road is currently closed in both directions and diversions are currently in place."

Police ask drivers to avoid the area
A Gwent Police spokesman said: "The A48 Cardiff Road Newport is currently closed between Tredegar Park roundabout and Statistics Office [in] both directions. Diversions are in place which may cause congestion. Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes."
