The M4 was closed in both directions this morning due to a serious incident after a man was found in the carriageway with life-threatening injuries. The route was shut between junction 45 for the A4067, Ynysforgan, and 46 for the A48 to Llangyfelach and was closed for more than an hour. It has since re-opened.

A police tweet this morning said: "We are at the scene of a serious collision on the M4 motorway. The road is currently closed in both directions between J45 & J46 It will remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible Delays are expected in the area."

Man taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries

A man has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being found in the middle of the M4 near Swansea. Emergency services were called at 6.30am on Sunday morning following reports that a man was lying on the carriageway near junction 45.

The man was taken to the University of Wales hospital in Cardiff. The route was shut between junction 45 for the A4067, Ynysforgan, and 46 for the A48 to Llangyfelach for nearly two hours.
