Police have uncovered a large cannabis farm hidden inside lorry trailer units. Around 160 plants were discovered when officers executed a search at the Western Log timber merchant's compound on the outskirts of Cwmavon in the Afan Valley. Police say the swoop has removed a "significant" quantity of drugs from the streets of Port Talbot.

Police spent much of Sunday afternoon at the site recovering the plants and growing equipment along with already-harvested cannabis. Firefighters had to assist officers with gaining entry to the specially-adapted trailers. Two men aged 53 and 28 and both from Duffryn Rhondda in the Afan Valley have been arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. South Wales Police sergeant Jules Simpson said the force takes the cultivation of drugs seriously, and he urged anyone with information about drug production in the community to come forward. He said: "Thanks to the work of local PCSOs and neighbourhood officers we have been able to remove a significant quantity of cannabis from the streets of Port Talbot.

"We know the negative impact illegal drug use and supply can have on communities. We are committed to doing all we can to put a stop to this sort of activity in the Port Talbot area. We take all suspected drugs cultivation seriously and would continue to urge anyone who has any suspicions about any buildings that might be used for illegal purposes to come forward with information."
