Married At First Sight saw the return of some much missed and loved faces from the experiment last night (November 15). Viewers were left shocked after learning that (former) newly-weds Jay Howard and Luke Worley had split up, after being forced to exit the show by the experts.
Jay confirmed to her fellow contestants that they were no longer a couple, despite both of them keen to continue their relationship after being made to leave. Explaining to her co-stars, who asked where Luke was, Jay said: "He literally, basically just said, like, we are better off just being friends. I asked him what he wanted, but he couldn't answer the question."
"Did it come out of the blue for you?" Laura Vaughan then asked, to which Jay responded: "No, I was expecting it, but, I would have preferred to have made it work, it's just you need both of you to put the effort in."
Emotions ran high during the dinner, as Luke explained his insecurities over the relationship with his ex bride. Jay briefly escaped the dinner table, overwhelmed with emotions, but was soon followed by a number of the cast, reassuring her.
After the fall out, Jay shared an update on Instagram, sticking up for her former husband about his treatment, which was then shared to Luke’s Instagram Story. When Jay’s Instagram page was checked, she had made her account private.
However, the post showed a photo of the former couple sitting on a sofa on the MAFS set, alongside a lengthy statement. Jay wrote: “We have been through so much together and our journey has truly been an amazing experience!
“I’d never thought that I’d have the courage to walk down the aisle, but seeing your smile put me at ease so thank you for accepting me for who I am. It’s been hard, very emotional and we’ve both learnt a lot of lessons from our time together and on the show, but I can honestly say I wouldn't have wanted to take on this journey with anyone else.
“My confidence has grown x100 throughout this process and you have been a huge part of that and I’lll be forever grateful. Thank you for the journey we’ve been on together, for the many ups and downs we’ve had along the way but most of all, thank you for the memories.
“@lukeworley1 You have been my rock throughout this whole experiment! Anyone trolling this man and sending him death threats should be ashamed of yourselves! We are normal people with feelings! Remember that please!”
Sharing her words with his own followers, Luke added: “Thank you. I will always have your back no matter what.” Tonight’s episode will see the pair return to the sofa in front of experts Paul C Brunson, Mel Schilling and Charlene Douglas, where a clip of Paul appeared to say “excuse, excuse, excuse,” to Luke.
Married At First Sight UK continues at 9pm on E4 tonight.
