Marks & Spencer is a dependable place to get luxurious Christmas fare to make that festive meal extra special or bring an extra zing to a party spread. They're also pretty good at novelty biscuit tins and light-up gin bottles but this year the retailer has excelled itself on the Christmas chocolate box front with a light-up village scene that shoppers are loving.

M&S' Magical Christmas Village set includes a mixture of milk, dark, white, and blonde chocolates in the shape of cabins and trees. When it's opened it reveals an idyllic Christmas village scene with glowing lights and plays the tune The First Noel.

The box is available in stores now and can be ordered onine via Ocado for £15. One reviewer gave it five out of five stars and said: "It’s beautiful and the music is lovely. It’s not worth it if you’re hoping for lots of chocolate but the overall idea is super-cute."

Fans of the gift have been raving on social media about the product with one shopper saying: "M&S has done it again this Christmas, I love this" and another adding: "It’s beautiful and the music is lovely."

It follows the success of last year's chocolate gift set – a Santa's workshop which lit up and played jingling sleigh bells. Inside the box were 20 adorable characters made from milk, dark, white, and blonde chocolate.

Other sweet festive treats made the top 10 too including the Christmas Colin the Caterpillar cake, featuring much-loved Colin with a Christmas jumper on his back, and the retailer's make-your-own gingerbread house kit.

Marks & Spencer aren't the only ones selling sweet treats in fancy packaging this Christmas. Waitrose is selling a Christmas winter village chocolate box for £15 here. Hotel Chocolat has a whole range of fancy chocolate gifts here. While if you're after biscuits in a fancy tin Sainsbury's have a light-up bauble with all butter shortbread.
