I'm a Celebrity 2023 is here and former politician and GB News host Nigel Farage will be entering the jungle. The former leader of Ukip and one of the driving figures behind Brexit will join food critic Grace Dent, DJ Sam Thompson and actress and Britney Spears' sister Jamie-Lynn, amongst others in the camp this year.

He's known for many reasons, but did you know that 59-year-old Farage tried to be an MP in the UK Parliament seven times and failed? He unsuccessfully stood for Parliament seven times over 21 years, starting with the Eastleigh by-election in 1994. His most recent failure was in 2015 when he lost by 2,812 votes in South Thanet.

In December 2022 Farage told The Mirror that he wouldn't run to become an MP again as he wants to avoid the humiliation of another defeat. An MEP between 1999 and 2020, Farage created also the Brexit Party in 2019 after the frustration over the delay in leaving the EU after the 2016 referendum.

In 2010 Farage had to walk away from a light aircraft wreckage when it smashed into the ground during a Ukip election stunt in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

Farage said he was entering the jungle after being "demonised" and hoping to dispel years of misconception. He said: " The idea that somehow the things I represent -mean-spirited, small-minded, nasty, the ‘little Englander’ - all those accusations that have been flung at me over the years just aren’t true. If we can dispel some of those misconceptions, then that will be a good thing too.”
