Katherine Jenkins appeared on The One Show on Monday, November 13 alongside fellow Welsh star and presenter Alex Jones. The Welsh classical singer was on the programme to share not one, not two but three pretty major announcements.
Welcoming Katherine, who hails from Neath, Alex said: "Katherine, big news, the news today is you are the first civilian to become a Navy ambassador." Smiling, Katherine responded: "I am, I'm being sworn in."
"HMS Cardiff is the ship, this is a massive, big deal..." Alex then said, before jokingly adding: "I mean, there were other Welsh people they could have asked but they went for the Jenkins... but this is huge because your dad, of course, was in the Navy, wasn't he?"

The 43-year-old explained: "My dad was in the Navy, and I think because of all my links with the forces over the past 20 years... I met with the Admiral of the Navy and he asked me if I would consider being the first civilian to be a lady sponsor of the new warship, and with it being called HMS Cardiff as well that's lovely. She's not actually going to be on the water until 2027 but it's a lifelong commiment so I am part of the ship's crew now."
"That is incredible, congratulations, that's huge," Alex said before moving on to Katherine's new single. The track is called Home for Christmas, which is Katherine's own take on the carol Hark the Herald Angel Sings, only with family-centric lyrics.
"I'm just trying to make it more contemporary," Katherine said, adding: "Trying to bring that sense of family and what is important, trying to convey the message of Christmas through the music."
And if that wasn't enough, Katherine also opened up about her upcoming concert in Swansea, which will be shown on the BBC over the festive period. She explained: "It's my first time going home for a big concert in a while and we've got the new arena in Swansea which I haven't played yet. We were able to put on this concert, I think it's really important to me that we get to film one of these concerts from Wales. A home crowd, which is always lovely and makes me want to do my best.2
Katherine added: "We've got fantastic special guests like Jack Savoretti, Chloe Flowers from America, and Wynn Evans. It's a celebration of Christmas, festive, Wales and I can't wait." You can read more about the concert here.
