People who receive certain benefits and state pension will get a bonus payment later this year to help with the cost of living crisis. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is sending out a £10 Christmas bonus to people hardest hit by the cost crisis this winter.
The money is usually given in the first week of December and will be made as a separate payment so don't worry if you don’t notice your additional £10 when you get your usual benefits or pension payment.
No one needs to claim the additional £10 as it will go into the account automatically. In contrast payments which are shown as ‘DWP XB’ on a bank statement are benefit payments or a state pension. To get the latest money stories straight to your inbox twice a week sign up to our newsletter here.

Who is eligible for the £10 bonus?
In order to qualify for the money you will need to be 'ordinarily resident' in areas including the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Gibraltar in the qualifying week, which is expected to be December 4-10. This means you will need to be eligible for these benefits within that timeframe.
People on the following benefits will qualify for the money:
- Adult disability payment
- Armed Forces independence payment
- Attendance allowance
- Carer’s allowance
- Child disability payment
- Constant attendance allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
- Contribution-based employment and support allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
- Disability living allowance
- Incapacity benefit at the long-term rate
- Industrial death benefit (for widows or widowers)
- Mobility supplement
- Pension credit - the guarantee element
- Personal independence payment (PIP)
- State pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
- Severe disablement allowance (transitionally protected)
- Unemployability supplement or allowance
- War disablement pension at state pension age
- War Widow’s Pension
- Widowed mother’s allowance
- Widowed parent’s allowance
- Widow’s pension
If you have not claimed your state pension and are not entitled to one of the other qualifying benefits you will not get a Christmas bonus. You also will not qualify if you receive universal credit but are not eligible for any of the above benefits. You can find out more about the Christmas bonus on GOV.UK here.
