Santa will officially launch the festivities when he arrives to switch on the city centre lights at the Christmas parade on Sunday, November 19.
This year’s parade looks set to be one of the best yet with more than 40 community groups set to join the ranks.
The event will be full of light, music and dancing featuring professional performers and everyone’s favourite fairy tale and movie characters as well as the community groups.
There will also be spectacular Christmas and entertainment floats and so many more amazing sights to see on this very special evening.

Waterfront Winterland
Returning again this year, the Waterfront Winterland will be at Museum Park from November 15 until January 2.
The popular ice rink is back and under cover so you can take to the ice whatever the weather.
Skating aids are available for young children and there will be relaxed sessions every Tuesday with reduced lighting and no music or loud announcements.
Whether you’re a thrill seeker or prefer a more leisurely pace there will also be a range of exciting rides to suit everyone.
Unique and exhilarating
New for this year is the Ice Jet, the only one in Europe, which is able to reach speeds of 50mph and offers a unique and exhilarating experience.
Home to over 5,000 running lights, including neon, lasers, lanterns and tube lights, as well as 10 disco balls, the visual effects are spellbinding.
No visit to Waterfront Winterland would be complete without a spin on the Giant Wheel where you can take in the sights of the city at a gentler pace on the 33m wheel which also features a wheelchair-accessible carriage.

If all the excitement makes you peckish, be sure to visit the Alpine Village for festive favourites including German sausages, mulled wine or toasted marshmallows.
