Rare renovation project in the heart of Tenby waiting to become a dream home by the sea
It's a seven-bed, four-storey house packed with potential to become stunning

When a location in Wales becomes very popular it can become a challenge to find a house that offers you the chance to undergo a renovation project and create the home of your dreams in the heart of your favourite location. Arguably Tenby has become a property (as well as holidaymaker) hotspot.
According to Rightmove the coastal town had an overall average price of £338,308 over the last year, which is significantly higher than the Welsh national average of £217,000 as stated by the Office for National Statistics and 31% up on the 2020 peak of £258,194. To find a substantial townhouse in the heart of Tenby still with potential to improve and value to be released has now become rare so this seven-bed beast of a building around the corner from South Beach is a find. And it can also boast a semi-detached status compared to so many comparable period properties in the location that are usually part of a terrace.

The house in Sutton Street is Grade II listed and according to the listing was "part of the South Cliff development laid out in 1864 to plans by J Shipway, intended to have a terrace of 10 houses each side". In the event it was built more in more piecemeal fashion – these two houses and the pair opposite, Sherborne House and Hereford House, were built in the 1870s and the street was never completed.
Called Bedford House, the property is just around the corner from the Esplanade, easily enticing you to step out and stroll along the pavement admiring the stunning view across the water and wander down to the beach and take your shoes off to sink your toes into the soft sand. Around another corner is the harbour, cocooned in views of pretty painted properties that tower above it on the clifftop street. North Beach is just a walk away and the variety of restaurants, pubs, cafes and takeaways, as well as everyday amenities, are easily accessed from Bedford House.
But regularly eating out might have to be put on hold for a while as there's much to do to bring Bedford House up to a luxury home by the sea standard. The four-storey house is currently set up as three self-contained apartments but with planning and listed building consent could be one dwelling again, transformed into a sensational seven-bed home by the sea.
Bedford House is on the market with no onward chain with Birt & Co Tenby for £499,950. Call them on 01834 842204 to find out more. Open the hefty front door of this handsome house and the potential and period detailing hits you immediately.

The house was Grade II-listed for being "one of a pair of little altered Victorian stuccoed houses with original detail".

(Image: Birt & Co Tenby)3 of 21The dining room in the main three-bed maisonette that makes up the core of the house and the cornicing and sash window offers the period feature with the wide floorboards offering the potential to revive even more character. Plus the handy hatch can offer easy access from oven to dining table though it is probably, but not confirmed, a remnant from the 1970s.
(Image: Birt & Co Tenby)4 of 21The kitchen of the maisonette is compact but has a direct door to the garden as a redeeming feature. Obviously if the house were to become one home again it needs moving into the dining room to create a spectacular kitchen-diner and this space could be used as a utility room. Planning permission would be needed though.
