You can hardly walk down a street without spotting a Ring doorbell these days. The popular little devices have sprung up on homes around the country over recent years, as householders look to add a touch of security and smart tech to their front doors.
If you've been tempted to get one but deterred by the price, then now could be the perfect time to strike. Black Friday has arrived early at Amazon with the retail giant launching more than a full week of deals, running from November 17 to 27.
There have been a number of big discounts already live, but this bundle deal including a Ring doorbell is particularly eye-catching. For £49.99 Black Friday shoppers can get a Ring Video Doorbell, plus an Echo Pop. If you're not familiar with the Echo Pop, it's a compact version of Amazon's smart speaker that also works with the voice assistant, Alexa.
The two items have an RRP of £144.98 but currently have 65% off, bringing the price to £49.99. The doorbell has been reviewed more than 70,000 times, with 76% of reviews awarding it 5 stars.
One reviewer said: "After suffering a nightmare of a year with a different brand of camera doorbell, I gave up and invested in this one for the front door. THIS has everything you could dream of! The motion sensor is sensible, so unlike the other brand I had, this one doesn't go off all night long cause it spots a blooming fox!"
Another added: "The Ring Doorbell has become an indispensable part of my home security setup. Its sleek design houses a powerful combination of convenience and safety. The ease of installation was a pleasant surprise, and the app's user-friendly interface makes monitoring my doorstep a breeze."
Customers who weren't satisfied said they found it challenging to setup, while others weren't happy with the motion detection or had trouble with the Wi-Fi connection.
There are several alternative video doorbells out there too. The Mirror's Gareth Butterfield has tested out several and he swears by the Eufy Video Doorbell S330.
Speaking about why he loves it, he said: "Chiefly, it's the genius twin-camera setup. A main camera gives a really clear field of view, but a second camera points downwards, at the area of doorstep your packages get dropped in, and this gives a massive amalgamated view of your entire porch area. It's so clever.
"What's more, the package detection monitor kicks in as soon as the parcel is left, and it literally tracks its every move. So if I'm away and my doorbell goes, if the courier has left it on the step I know about it and I can let the camera keep track of it." But at £229, it is quite a bit pricier.
Google also makes a video doorbell, the Google Nest, which is currently on offer at Amazon with £40 off, making it £139.99.
