I shopped at the huge new One Beyond discount store on its first day open and found bargains everywhere

Take a first look inside Swansea city centre's newest store, One Beyond. The discount brand welcomed customers through its doors for the first time on Friday, November 17 with a huge variety of items on its shelves with everything from Christmas decorations to dog food, toys and toiletries.

The new opening has created 24 jobs with more employment opportunities to come in future, according to area manager Dave Evans, who said the first day had got off to a great start with a steady stream of people coming in to check out the newest addition to Oxford Street's shopping thoroughfare.

Area manager Mr Evans said: "It's fantastic, it has gone better than we expected. It's been about a month since we got given the keys so it's been a quick turnaround, we've had the maintenance boys in, got the equipment up, then getting ready for opening day. People can get absolutely everything here. We've got a whole range of medical, toiletries, household. Our greatest aspect is our seasonal stock, but you can get anything - items for babies, toys, it's a one stop shop.

"The early feedback has been fantastic. We've got another store as well in Fforestfach which has been a success, we've opened here now with the new branding, and it's gone really well. Swansea's main city centre is one we really wanted to get. A lot of the big names are unfortunately leaving the high street, so it's just about getting people back to shopping. We're not a £1 shop, we've got a range of items, some which cost £20, £30, but we're offering good value products."

The store had been empty ever since Sports Direct moved to Parc Tawe retail park in July last year and while another discount retailer, Sterling Plus, was expected to open there earlier this year, that store never came to fruition.
