The organisers of a three-day beach music festival in Cornwall have submitted an application to Swansea Council to host another event on Swansea Beach. Tunes in the Dunes Ltd - the company behind the annual festival in Cornwall which attracted big names in 2023 like The Vaccines, Kaiser Chiefs and James Bay - has plans for a new festival on Mumbles Road, Brynmill, called 'Tunes in the Bay'.
After requesting full application details from Swansea Council, WalesOnline understand that, if held, the proposed event would take place annually over three consecutive days and during a period sometime between April 1 and September 30.
Tunes in the Dunes takes place each year in Perranporth, Cornwall, and includes major headline acts on the main stage, a second stage with local music acts, a bar where top DJs play, and daily afterparties. There are also silent discos, food and drink, glamping and family entertainment on offer at the Cornish festival. The application for a music festival on Swansea Beach includes plans for a 9,999 person maximum capacity event aimed at all ages including families and hopes to run from 12pm to midnight each day. If it gets the go-ahead, the proposed Swansea event would be bigger than its Cornish counterpart, which has a maximum capacity of 5,000 attendees, according to the Tunes in the Dunes website.
While Tunes in the Dunes Ltd did not respond when we reached out for comment, its application shows the company has applied for a licence to play live and recorded music and sell alcohol from Friday-Sunday from 12pm- 11pm. You can read
