Ex-Man Utd academy kid brands Bluebird 'top player'

Manchester United academy product Demetri Mitchell has named Josh Bowler as one of the best he has played with.

Mitchell rose through the ranks at Old Trafford, heading out on loan to Hearts in the process, before signing for Blackpool in 2020. He went on to play for Hibernian before signing for Exeter City this year.

On X, the left-back spoke about players he had played alongside away from United and believes that Bowler was the best he saw in the two years he was at Bloomfield Road.

Writing on social media, Mitchell said: "One player I thought was top at every club I've been at after United. Blackpool: Josh Bowler. Hearts: Kyle Lafferty. Hibernian: Elie Youan. Exeter: Jay Stansfield."

Bowler, who is on loan from Nottingham Forest, has been in good form for Cardiff this season, scoring twice, once each side of a frustrating injury, and looks a nailed-on starter on that right-hand side.

Corberan: We will make call on Grant

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has said the club will assess the Karlan Grant situation next summer. The winger has impressed, without setting the world alight, at Cardiff, but Corberan wants him to hit his best form with the Bluebirds before returning to The Hawthorns next summer.

"It's impossible to close doors on players who are a part of this club," Corberan told our sister title BirminghamLive. "They still have contracts - Grant has two years more from next summer. It's a case of when you have these feelings, and you are watching everything you have done, you re-evaluate how everything is working. Grant is playing every single minute, and I'm pleased.

"He's not been changed. In the last games he hasn't been a player the coach has been using to change. This is important when they're playing every single minute - it means the coach believes in him and because he deserves this.

"With Grant I'd say, before he went for the loan, that the way he came to pre-season I was thinking that this is a player who wanted to recover his level and we considered that the best way for him to rediscover his level was to move him from here. After, in the summer, in the right moment, we will re-evaluate the situation."

Cardiff street renamed after Bluebirds legend

A street near Cardiff City Stadium has been renamed in honour of legendary former Bluebird Phil 'Joe' Dwyer.

The Cardiff-born defender is a bona fide, all-time legend among City supporters, having played a whopping 575 times for the Bluebirds, second only to Billy Hardy, and he sadly past away two years ago at the age of 68.

A huge banner of Dwyer, who also had 10 caps for Wales between 1978 and 1979, is on display at the top of the red stand at Cardiff City Stadium, but the club have lobbied to ensure his memory is honoured in a more tangible way, by renaming a street after him.

Clos Parc Morgannwg has now been renamed Clos Phil Dwyer in a permanent tribute to the defender's Bluebirds legacy. The street is found roughly between the Ninian Stand and Family Stand side of the ground and leads to the car park for the away end.

Midfielder returns after more than a year out

Midfielder Raheem Conte has returned to the fold after a year-long lay-off with injury.

Conte, 21, joined the club as a 19-year-old in the summer of 2022, signing alongside Cameron Antwi, but suffered an injury not long after arriving. He had his one-year contract extended owing to the injury he sustained.

However, he returned to action after 370 days out in the 3-0 win over Bristol City, replacing Kieron Evans who suffered a nasty-looking ankle injury just before half time. Fellow midfielder Ryan Kavanagh also completed his first 90-minute runout, following a lengthy spell off due to injury, in the same match.
