Guehi's Swansea struggles

Former Swansea loan star Marc Guehi has revealed there were tough moments during his stint in south Wales.

Guehi arrived under Steve Cooper’s watch and is widely considered as a big hit by supporters in these parts. Fans knew the centre-back would play for his country at senior level one day and he has now achieved that while at Crystal Palace.

But his time in SA1, although enjoyable, was tough on him and his confidence. “Not many people know, it was tough for me at Swansea,” he said.

“I have not spoken about it, everyone thinks it was plain sailing, great. I played the first four games and then I didn’t play up until after lockdown. Being away from home, in Swansea, different country, on your own, there’s going to be challenges, going to be tough.

“Those moments were difficult, you take those moments, learn from them, try to move on and put them right. I was just out of favour. Not anything in particular. I came from Chelsea, came with a lot of confidence, and my confidence almost gets knocked.

“Thankfully, I did get back home, just in time before (lockdown), it was so strange to say it, for so many people around the world it was horrible, for my family, and so many people around.

“For me, it was probably the best moment, I could get away from football, be with my family, and just focus on myself. How can I now if football does come back – thankfully football did come back – if we do get back to playing, how can I get back in this team?

“I genuinely enjoyed Swansea. It was good. Swansea was a great place for me to play. I had a great view from an apartment looking out onto the beach although it was not sunny but it was still a decent view.”

Whittaker doing 'wonderfully well'

Former Swansea striker Morgan Whittaker is doing "wonderfully well" since completing his £1million move to Plymouth Argyle last summer.

Whittaker rejoined the Pilgrims on a permanent deal after doing so well at Home Park during a short loan stint last term. Director of football at Plymouth Neil Dewsnip says both Whittaker and Bali Mumba have been statement signings for the newly-promoted club.

"It was a really brave and bold statement by us all, rubber-stamped by Simon (Hallett, Argyle's chairman and majority owner) of course," he told our sister title PlymouthLive.

"The two signings made a big statement to say 'We are not going to be just a one-season tourist football club where we have a nice time in the Championship and then go back down to League One, we are coming to compete.'

"Those two signings heavily said that and thankfully I think they are both working out quite nicely. They have both contributed in the way you would hope, they are very offensive-minded players.

"Let's remember, Bali's reputation has gone before him. It has been probably slightly harder for him in many ways. He was League One Young Player-of-the-Year etc, etc last season, getting all the plaudits while Morgan, unfortunately, wasn't because he wasn't playing (after he was recalled by Swansea City from Argyle at the start of January).

"Morgan is doing absolutely wonderfully well now. He's very much part of our creativity, our attacking, along with Finn (Azaz), Bali and Ryan Hardie. Morgan has done particularly well, his record stands for itself really."

Cooper wins goal of the month

Ollie Cooper's strike against Plymouth has been voted as Swansea's goal of the month for October.

Cooper came off the bench to score from range at Home Park in a sweeping move.

He struck a dipping right-footed effort across the keeper to get Swansea in the lead, before Josh Key's late effort sealed all three points in Devon.
