Fletcher getting impossible to ignore

Swansea loan signing Kristian Fletcher was on the scoresheet again yesterday in the under-21s' 4-3 defeat to Aston Villa in Landore.

The DC United man, who has signed a short-term deal with the Swans until the new year, gave Swansea the lead as he netted the 10th goal of his temporary spell.

Swansea would go on to lose the match, much to the frustration of the players and head coach Anthony Wright, who have now lost their long unbeaten run at home “It was a game we were really in control of and, at 3-1, we had ourselves in a position to win it,” he said.

“Their second goal was an important one and individual errors have cost us unfortunately. At this level we know we will make mistakes, and it is down to us to work with the players and reflect on the mistakes that have been made and try to make sure we don’t make those errors again.

“We are still in a good position in the group, we have gone toe to toe with Villa tonight, and I felt we were the better team. Really we should have won the game, but credit to Villa because they exploited the mistakes we made and capitalised on them.

“I feel for the players, they gave us everything. They were on their knees in the changing room, but when you have a group of players that give you everything you always know you have something to work with and you are not too far away. But, as I say, errors cost you in football, and it certainly has in this instance.”

Fletcher, meanwhile, is getting impossible to ignore. Swansea head coach Michael Duff said last month that he wanted more eyes on the American, and one wonders whether that may happen during the current international break.

"We need to see more of him," Duff said last month. "I've seen him play a couple of times in the 21s. He's supposed to have trained with us twice already, but he was injured for a couple of weeks. Then the 21s had Covid, so there's been circumstances meaning he hasn't been able to.

"But we want to get eyes on him. He's come in and he's settled. He's a young man coming from a different country. So let him be and let him settle. His performances have been good. The next part is to look at him in a first-team environment. But where he's come from it doesn't mean he's automatically going to get a contract. He has to be good enough. He has to be better than what we got."

Chivers excited for stadium bow

Chloe Chivers says she can't wait to play at the Swansea.com Stadium this weekend after injury delayed her chances of playing in SA1.

An ACL injury meant she missed the two games at the stadium during the 2022-23 campaign but with Wrexham up in the Genero Adran Premier this weekend, she says she's over the moon.

“I’m very excited, I’ve missed out the last couple of times due to injury. I’ve been around when we’ve played at the stadium but to play in it will be something completely different,” said Chivers.

“It did hurt a little bit watching from the sidelines, I think I was a couple of weeks out from returning, so to miss out on it by only a couple of weeks was a bit heartbreaking. Hopefully we can get the same support as we had for those games last year, if not more, when we step out onto the pitch again.

“I’m buzzing for it, it’s obviously a very different experience get on a normal Sunday. I am sure the atmosphere and the supporters will push us on and it will be a great day.

"We want to go out and put in a really good performance for the fans. There will be little girls aspiring to be where we are one day, so it will be a big one for us.”
