Ginnelly's recovery documented

Swansea attacker Josh Ginnelly's road to recovery is being documented by the club's media team.

A video released on their official Instagram page has shown the steps Ginnelly is taking on his route back to fitness. The journey is likely to be a long and painful one, with the 26-year-old ruled out for the season after damaging his Achilles against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this year.

"Josh Ginnelly is out for the rest of the season," Duff said back in September. "He had a total rupture of his Achilles, which we didn't think was great at the time with the language he was using."

The video shows Ginnelly back in the gym at Fairwood while on crutches, doing tentative work with a moon boot on, being supported by Swansea's specialists. He is also seen doing some upper body work. At times the winger looks in discomfort as he puts the hard yards in.

He won't play again this season but he showed in his early appearances for Swansea how much he can offer, with a stunning goal in the Carabao Cup against Northampton Town his highlight.

Piroe's blunt Martin meeting

Former Swansea star Joel Piroe says Russell Martin initially wanted to sign another striker ahead of him when he arrived at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Piroe was a huge success during his time in south Wales, notching up 20 goals in each of his two seasons at the club but Martin wasn't wholly convinced by him at the start, according to the Dutchman.

In an interview with Leeds United's club podcast, Piroe's new club, he says Martin wanted to take the number nine shirt off him in a rather blunt first meeting between the two.

“He took me in the office and we had a chat about it," he said. “He said in his mind the team how he knew it, most of the players he knew before, he knew how he would want to work with them but he didn’t know me.

“He said in the first meeting we had, I don’t really like your intensity and I want to bring in another striker.

“I am going to take number 9 off you and you can take another number. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to work with you, you can still show me but this is how I think at the moment and it is up to you to change my mind.”

And change his mind he did, with Piroe banging in 46 goals over two terms. The forward is now at Elland Road, while Martin took the reins at Southampton earlier this summer.

Joseph opens up on struggles

Kyle Joseph's move to Blackpool hasn't gone according to plan. The young attacker moved to Bloomfield Road at the same time Jerry Yates made the switch in the opposite direction.

But Joseph arrived at the Seasiders with a niggle and suffered another injury days after his debut. He has played just 39 minutes of football for his new team but is set to make his third appearance for them this weekend.

“Coming in injured and trying to get used to new surroundings is always difficult,” he said. “You’ve just got to take one thing at a time. It could’ve all got on top of me, but it was just about going in and getting to know the lads- remaining focussed on getting back playing.

“I’ve not played a lot this season and that makes me want to go and play as many games as I can. There’s still plenty of fixtures left and I want to contribute in as many as possible. There’s going to be a bit of pressure where I’ve got to prove myself, but I’m confident in my ability and my body.

“I bring high energy, running and pressing. I want to get goals and assists. My family has been massive for me. They’ve always supported me. When I had the chance to move back home, they told me to make sure it was the right club for me. When you’re injured it’s always good to have family around you, they’re the reason I do what I do today.”
