With gorgeous coastlines, rugged mountain ranges and stunning countryside Wales has a lot to offer from the incredible scenery to the fun activities so it is no surprise that our amazing country has been named in the top 20 locations in the world. Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel guide read by more than 10 million travellers, named Wales as the 19th best place to travel to.

There were only two other UK destinations on the list with Manchester ranking 15th and Scotland ranking 40th. Talking about Wales Travel Lemming said: “People often underestimate what Wales has to offer. For a small country, Wales has incredibly diverse scenery. The dramatic coastline is spectacular. The mountains are a haven for nature lovers. The towns and cities are bustling yet friendly. I’m proud to call this magical country home!”

Wales has beaten incredible worldwide locations like Iquitos in Peru, Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic, and Northern Sumatra in Indonesia. Yucatan in Mexico was awarded first, Gizo in the Solomon Islands was awarded second, and Stavanger in Norway third.

This is not the only high-ranking Wales has received recently. Lonely Planet has named Wales as one of the best places to visit in the world.

Wales was recognised by Lonely Planet as a destination leading the way in sustainability "thanks to its revamped railways expanding the possibilities of exploring the nation’s wild, wonderful west". Spain, Ecuador, Hokkaido in Japan, and Greenland were among the top 10 best sustainable places to visit alongside Wales.

The hotlist has been running for 19 years and places are voted for by Lonely Planet's global community of staff, local writers, and publishing partners. You can keep up to date with the latest What's On news by signing up to the newsletter here.
